In Uganda, there are two national parks where you can find the gorillas and currently, we have approximately 19 groups of gorillas that are prepared to be habituated in Uganda. in these national parks Bwindi impenetrable national park has the highest number of groups of mountain gorillas and the rest are in Mgahinga national park. All these parks are located in the tropical of western Uganda on the border of Uganda Congo and Rwanda. Uganda has more than 500 gorillas by the 2020 census
Theses Gorilla groups are in different sectors and each sector has different family members of gorillas as listed below:

Buhoma sector is one of the sectors that are more preferred to be visited because it has the oldest gorilla family named Mubare.
The Buhoma sector has three gorilla families, Mubare, Habinyanja, and Rushegura. Mubare family is of 9members and the oldest, Habinyanja is a group of 17members and Rushegura has the highest members of 19members and this was habituated in 2000, eight tourists are allowed to trek one group per day that means everyday Buhoma gives out 24permits per day.

This sector is located in Bwindi national park in the northern direction in Kanungu district since the park enters different districts, the highest number of the tourist trek in this sector. This sector can be accessed by land in different directions using road transport regardless of the time and your itinerary is the one that determines the route to use, via Masaka road to Rukungiri to Buhoma, via fort portal road is Kasese where you will access the queen Elizabeth national park then Kanungu Kabale which takes like 2hours drive you can use also air means from Entebbe international airport to Kihihi airstrip and there you can use the car which is less kilometer to the park.

It’s advisable to the tourists who want to trek Gorilla to sleep around the park  and Buhoma has both luxury and normal accommodation for all the visitors depending on your budget, the accommodation facilities include Bwindi Volcano lodge, Buhoma lodge, Bwindi forest lodge, Bwindi view bands, Bwindi guest house

Rushaga sector
Rushaga sector has 6gorilla families that are habituated to trekking and these include Nshogi, Kahungye, Mishaya, Bweza, Busingye, and Bikingi, a silverback is ahead of every family since the sectors have 6families only they only give out 46 permits per day. This sector is near Cyanika which makes it easy for visitors from Rwanda to visit and it’s in the Kisoro district. This sector is situated in the southern part of Bwindi national park; Bwindi impenetrable is located in the southwestern part of Uganda.

 How to access the Rushaga sector? It can be accessed by the road from Rwanda side from Cyanika to Kisoro district to the sector, guests from Entebbe airport can use Masaka road Mbarara to Kabale to Rushaga, the other means of accessing the sector is by use of air flight Aero link Uganda limited to Kisoro airstrip then to Rushaga.

Rushaga sector has a special gorilla family which is habituated different from the others, this group is called Bushaho, it is special in that only four people are allowed to trek it in 4hours  with the gorillas compared to the rest of the group where only 8vistors are allowed but for only 1hour.this family was trained very well and it’s familiar with the human beings before they start trekking process Trekking is not the only activity you can do, it has different activities like Batwa community tour, lake mutanda exploration among others like the mountain view of Virunga’s in Congo and in Uganda side there is Mt Gahinga and Mt Muhabura

Ruhija sector
Ruhija is among of the best sector in Bwindi impenetrable national park for gorilla trekking .it has four gorillas but they keep on increasing every year families making it possible for the tourist who comes for habituation easy to choose the one to habituate. The sector is located between the Buhoma sector and Kabale town on the eastern side of the park. The sector offers 32permits per day. In this group is where the guest chooses the family to visit. The groups are; Bitukuru, Oruzogo, and Kyaguliro, Ruhija is blessed to have all the family habituated, and apart from gorilla trekking, the sector has very many other tourist activities like birdwatch, forest walk, Batwa community encounter, cool and conducive weather conditions, since the sector is near to Queen Elizabeth national park game drives can also be done.

Nkuringo sector
This is one of the sectors you couldn’t miss visiting when going for gorilla trekking, is the sector with the fewest number of gorilla families, it’s the first sector to be habituated in 2004 that time they had a group called Nkuringo gorilla family, the sector is located in the southwestern side of the Bwindi impenetrable national park the first habituation was on the two elderly silverbacks, unfortunately, one of the silverbacks passed on in 2008 and left the Rafik and the two silverbacks. The sector now is left with 19members and two silverbacks. The sector has three groups and this includes the Christmas group, its name came as a result of that gorilla that was born on Christmas day and it’s the recent group in the sector. The other group in this sector is called the Bushaho family which was led by Bahati the silverback, the group is of 11members and they escape from the Nkuringo, the family was habituated in 2012

The gorilla trekking activity takes around 2to 6hours and once the gorilla is got you are around to take one hour with the gorillas, the guide will explain all information about the gorilla how they leave, what they eat and the habit, the visitors are allowed to take photos with the gorillas but are advised to switch off the camera flash because it scares the gorillas, this activity normally starts from 8 am that’s when it’s easy to allocate them following the trek.

Gorilla habituation requires you to be with a permit, these permit costs differ, foreigners normally pay $700, foreign residents pay $500 and Ugandans pay ugx250, 000, these permits can be got from the Uganda wildlife authority direct or you can book through tour operators who are registered with UTB booking with tour operators is the best means because the tour operators will guide you in all safari on the accommodation, transport, and hotels, it’s better to book the permit 3to6month before your safari.

For the visitors who want to sleep around the park to go earlier for the habituation is Nkuringo gorilla lodge for luxury, cloud mountain gorillas lodge, Nkuringo campsite, hammerkop bunkhouse, Nkuringo Bwindi gorilla lodge
Nyakagezi group
Nyakagezi group is the only habituated group in Mghahinga national park, this group is led by a silverback called mark and the rest two leaders. The park is on the border of Uganda Rwanda, and Congo, this group becomes unpredictable to the visitors to habituate because they move a lot hence making it hard for the visitors to see them, the cross to Rwanda and Congo forest

Besides gorilla trekking, there are various activities taking place in these national parks and some of the mentioned are:
Bird watching, visitors like the sound of the birds, and some come to do a study on those birds. this activity is done in every sector because the park is blessed with a variety of birds. the singing or the sound from birds are very interesting to listen to too
The nature walk is also another activity you can do in these parks and it’s normally done in the morning when the animals are living in their houses to go and look for food and in the evening time when there are going back to their habitats. And these animals such as monkeys and baboons prefer a calm environment
