Murchison falls

Murchison falls is located in northern-western Uganda in Masindi District, it’s one of the famous and great waterfalls we have in Uganda. The height of the falls is 40m. Murchison falls lie between Lake Kyoga and Lake Albert the Nile flows through the gaps between the rocks in order to enter Lake Albert on the western side of the lake. Lake Victoria water sends a lot of water into the falls which is more than 300 cubic meters per second. This fall was first discovered by a man called Samuel baker on his travel to Uganda. At first, the fall was named Roderick falls following the name of who was the president of royal geographical society but after the gazette of the Murchison falls national park its name was also changed to Murchison falls. This fall is located in Bunyooro Kingdom Masindi, the Kabaka’s power led him to re-name the waterfalls to Kabalenga falls during the regime of Amin in the 1970s but later after the fall of Amin, the fall was changed to Murchison falls up-to-date.

Murchison falls in the tourism sector are the most lucrative tourism sites in the country and that’s why in august 2019 the government of Uganda rejected the project of hydropower on the falls from South Africa’s boning company to preserve the falls mainly for tourists attraction. This falls attracts a lot of tourists. The best moments on the falls are at the top of the fall where you can see the dramatic view of white water sight and sound of the Nile getting crashed in a 6m wide chasm.

Besides the waterfalls, visiting the fall gives you an opportunity to visit the Murchison falls national park. In this park, you will have a chance to view wildlife like elephants, crocodiles in the water, hippos, and so many other animals and birds. You can do the game drive in the park for the big cats, lions, and leopards during morning hours. You can also visit the Ziwa Rhino sanctuary also for a memorable time in Uganda

Murchison falls water flow is controlled and regulated at the karuma hydroelectric power station, the 300cube meters per second are the only water that flows to the fall. In Uganda Murchison falls is the top waterfalls that have a high level of water flow. Karuma dam after its construction it will be the largest power generation station in Uganda. these falls are the best view when you are on a boat or you use the guide.
